124 - BreakPoint PLU WordWheel Search

BreakPoint provides a variety of PLU Item search facilities, permitting cashiers to access PLU Item information quickly and easily. The PLU WordWheel Search facility is designed to permit cashiers to search for PLU Items alphabetically by Description.

To implement the PLU WordWheel Search, you must first position the PLU WORDWHEEL Key on your cashier keyboard. The PLU WORDWHEEL Key is Cashier Keyboard Function #121 and can be positioned by using the Keyboard Layout option of the ALT Programming Menu.

You must also initialize the PLU WordWheel Index. This is performed with the BPFIXPLU utility which is included with your BreakPoint System. To initialize the PLU WordWheel Index, locate to the BreakPoint directory (BP101) and enter the following command:
BPFIXPLU WWON
This command will start a process that initializes and builds the PLU WordWheel Index. It needs to be run only once, so that once it has completed it will never need to be run again.

If you later decide to disable the PLU WordWheel Search facility, for whatever reason, you may remove the PLU WordWheel Index by entering the command:
BPFIXPLU WWOFF
Once you have positioned a PLU WORDWHEEL Key and have initialized the PLU WordWheel Index, you may begin to use the PLU WordWheel Search facility.

When you press the PLU WORDWHEEL Key, BreakPoint will present a window which is blank except only for a prompt that reads “Enter PLU Description:”. At this point, you may begin to enter the PLU Item Description that you are searching for.

When you enter the first character of the PLU Item Description that you wish to search for, BreakPoint will immediately present a listing of PLU Items beginning at the letter you have just entered. For example, if you are searching for a WIDGET, the moment you enter the first letter W, BreakPoint will present a listing of PLU Items, sorted alphabetically and beginning at the letter W.

As you press more characters, BreakPoint will immediately scroll its PLU Item listing to the first PLU Item that meets the Description being entered by the cashier. As it presents each new listing of PLU Items, the first PLU Item in the listing is highlighted. At any time, you may use the CURSOR UP or CURSOR DOWN key to scroll up and down the listing as well in order to select the PLU Item that is desired.

Once you have located the PLU Item that is desired, there are a number of options available. If you wish to sell the PLU Item which is highlighted, press the PLU or ENTER key. If you wish to perform a PLU Inquiry operation, press the PLU INQUIRY key. If you wish to terminate the PLU WordWheel Search, you may press the ESC key.

If you elect to use the PLU key to sell the highlighted PLU Item or the PLU INQUIRY key to display the PLU Item, BreakPoint will return to the PLU WordWheel Search window once the sale or display has been completed. This enables you to perform multiple PLU WordWheel Search operations with the single press of the PLU WORDWHEEL Key.

When you with to terminate the PLU WordWheel Search operation, press the ESC key at any time.
