126 - PLU Split Price/Mix and Match Selling

Split Pricing is used to sell multiple items for a single price, for example, 3 for $1.00. Mix and Match Split Pricing is used to combine different PLU Items with the same Split Price into the same sale, for example, one Banana Baby Food priced at 3 for $1.00 sold with two Peach Baby Foods priced also at 3 for $1.00 for a combined Split Price of $1.00 total.

PLU Split Pricing is implemented through the FOR: field found on the PLU UPDATE screen. If you wish to program a PLU Item to be priced at 3 for $1.00, you must put $1.00 in the Price 1 field and the number 3 in the FOR: field.

Once you have programmed a PLU Item with a Split Price, you may then link that item to a Mix and Match Group so that it may be combined with other PLU Items in that same group. To implement the Mix and Match option, you must enter the number of the Mix and Match Group desired in the MIX & MATCH: field. BreakPoint supports up to 99 Mix and Match Split Price Groups. You may wish to identify each of these groups by entering its Description into the Mix & Match option found in the ALT Programming Menu. This routine will provide a reminder to operators as to which Mix and Match Split Price Group is being used for which PLU Items.

There is one System Flag option with regard to PLU Item Split Pricing. When a customer has purchased less than the Split Price quantity, you may choose to sell those units at the Split Price or at a Single Unit Price. For example, you may wish to program a PLU Item at 3 for $1.00 or $.39 per unit. If a customer purchases one or two units, they will pay the Per Unit Price of $.39 each. If a customer purchases three or more units, they will pay the Split Price. If you wish for the units which are under the Split Price quantity to be sold at a Per Unit Price, you must indicate your preference by setting PLU System Flag #43 as shown below:

  • PLU System Flag #43 - Split Price Spares sold at Regular Price (Y) or at Split Price (N).
If PLU System Flag #43 is set to Y for YES, BreakPoint will use the price that is programmed in Price Level 2 as the Regular Per Unit Price for that item. Once the quantity of that PLU Item has reached the Split Quantity, the price charged will be adjusted to the Split Price for the entire group. Below are some examples of situations which may occur with PLU Split Pricing. We have used the above example of a PLU Item programmed at 3 for $1.00 or $.39 per unit, such that Price Level 1 is programmed to $1.00, the FOR: quantity is programmed to 3, and Price Level 2 is set to $.39. As well, PLU System Flag #43 is assumed to be set to Y for YES.

Example 1: Customer purchases two units, $.39 is charged per unit for a total of $.78.
Example 2: Customer purchases three units, $1.00 is charged for the complete group.
Example 3: Customer purchases five units, $1.00 is charged for the first three units and $.34 is charged for each of the other two units, for a total of $1.68 for the complete group.

If PLU System Flag #43 has been set to N for NO, the same examples would occur as follows:

Example 1: Customer purchases two units, $.34 is charged per unit for a total of $.68.
Example 2: Customer purchases three units, $1.00 is charged for the complete group.
Example 3: Customer purchases five units, $1.00 is charged for the first three units and $.34 is charged for each of the other two units, for a total of $1.68 for the complete group.
