Network Supprt and File Path Configuration In a local area network (LAN) environment, BreakPoint can support a wide variety of network options. Customer File Sharing is provided to permit Account Balance and Credit Limit information to be shared between BreakPoint workstations. PLU File Sharing is provided to permit real-time inventory updating from multiple BreakPoint workstations. Network paths for File Sharing may be programmed under the Hardware Setups of the ALT Programming Menu. Under network environments, BreakPoint also supports Automatic System Backups to be redirected to any drive and directory on the network. Under a Local Area Network (LAN), such as Novell, Lantastic, and many other networking systems, BreakPoint can provide a range of powerful facilities. The BreakPoint Customer Account File can be shared between all BreakPoint terminals, so that account balances may be updated and displayed from any terminal at an time. Once an account balance is updated at one terminal, the new balance becomes immediately accessible to all other terminals. PLU File Sharing is also supported under a network to provide PLU on hand quantity tracking between all terminals. Once a PLU Item is sold at one terminal, the updated on hand quantity becomes immediately accessible to all other terminals. Operators can also perform PLU price updating and PLU importing on BreakPoint terminals without having to advise or interrupt cashiers. BreakPoint supports complete register programming from a remote terminal within a network environment. This means that even while a cashier is fully, operational and actively entering sales, a manager can be making BreakPoint program changes from another workstation on the network. This can include any BreakPoint programming, such as PLU Item entries or changes, customer account adjustments, or department descriptor changes, all of which can be performed while cashier operations are being performed. Report printing for any cashier can be performed from any remote terminal within the network while cashier are actively operating. Any BreakPoint report, such as midday cashier reports, loss prevention reporting, or even journal printing, can be performed at any time. Within some network environments, managers can even view the cashier screen while sales are being entered, for absolute loss prevention control and security surveillance. BreakPoint provides complete clerk messaging across a network. Clerk messages can be broadcast across a network (sent to all cashiers), sent to a specific cashier for immediate presentation, or sent as a mail message designed for presentation at a later time.
